What Minara is

Minara connects Muslims to their daily worship and to their mosque. It has two sides that work together.

For worshippers

The Minara app (free on iPhone, Android coming soon) and this website: prayer times for where you are, the Knowledge library of duas and adhkar with their sources, routines of remembrance, and the mosques you follow, with their iqamah times, notices and events. Free, without ads.

For mosques

The mosque workspace, where the imam, the committee and volunteers run the mosque on Minara: prayer and iqamah times, notices, events and posts, the prayer-hall screen, the public page and the team.

What a mosque publishes in its workspace reaches its followers’ phones, its page on Minara and the screen in its prayer hall, from one place. People find the page on the Mosques map, or by scanning the mosque’s QR poster.

Set up your mosque

It takes a few minutes. Your dashboard and hall screens work from the start; the mosque becomes public on Minara once it’s verified.

• 01Find it or add it. Search for your mosque on Mosques. If it’s on the map but not claimed yet, claim it; if it isn’t listed, add it with its name and address. You can also start from For mosques.
• 02Create your account with your email address, or sign in. It’s the account you’ll use to manage the mosque.
• 03Follow the setup. Your mosque’s details and address (prayer times are calculated for that place), the calculation method and iqamah defaults, a description and facilities for your public profile, then a few first actions. You can skip any step and finish later from the dashboard.
• 04Verify the mosque. In Verification, fill in four steps: your role, the organisation that runs the mosque (its legal name and registration number), one photo outside and one inside, and at least one proof.
• 05Check your page is live. Overview lists anything left to finish, and Mosque profile shows whether your page is published.

Proving you run the mosque

• Email code, instant: a 6-digit code sent to the mosque’s own address, the one listed on OpenStreetMap or an address at your website’s domain.
• Website check, instant: put a token on your website, as a meta tag or a small text file, then press Check.
• Documents, reviewed by hand within 72 hours: statutes, a registration certificate or a utility bill in the organisation’s name.

Until it’s verified, your mosque isn’t shown on Minara’s website or app, and notices don’t send phone alerts. Your photos and documents are seen only by Minara’s review team and are never published.

Already managed on Minara?

A mosque has one team on Minara. If you’re part of it, ask one of its administrators to add you (see Your team). If you run the mosque but can’t reach them, choose Request access: tell us your role and show it’s your mosque. A person from our team reviews it, and the current owners are told.

Prayer times

Everything is in Prayer times in the workspace. Each prayer has two times: the adhan, when its time begins, and the iqamah, when the congregation stands.

Adhan times

Choose where they come from: Calculated every day from your mosque’s location with a method, or your mosque’s timetable. With a timetable, calculation fills any day or time it leaves empty. You also set the Asr method, the high-latitude rule, minute adjustments per prayer and the Hijri date. A preview of the next 7 days shows your changes before you save.

Iqamah

• For each prayer, set the iqamah a number of minutes after the adhan, at a fixed time, or by season.
• Round it, keep it between a “not before” and a “not after” time, and change it only weekly or monthly so it doesn’t move every day.
• Jumuʿah has its own sessions, each with a khutbah and a prayer time. Ramadan & Eid holds Tarawih, a Ramadan Isha time and the Eid prayers.

Import your timetable

In Timetable, choose Import: download a template (CSV or Excel) and fill it in, upload your own spreadsheet (French, English or Arabic column names are recognised), paste cells from Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets, or copy the days of another verified mosque on Minara. You check every day before anything is saved, then replace a range or only fill the empty days.

Changing a time

• Today only: use Today’s iqamah on the Overview, one minute earlier or later. It’s saved straight away.
• One day: click that day’s iqamah time in the month table.
• Several days, for Ramadan hours, works or a special occasion: add an exception with the times for that stretch of days.
• Every change updates the app, your public page and the hall screens. In Notifications, followers can be told about iqamah changes automatically, at noon the day before, or right away with Tell followers now.

Notices, events and posts

Use Share with your congregation on the Overview, or the Notices & posts and Events pages. Write it once: it appears on your mosque page and in the Minara app for everyone who follows you.

Notices

• For urgent or practical news: a headline, the details, and an optional end date after which it’s removed on its own.
• Choose whether it also shows on the hall screen, and whether to send a phone alert. Keep alerts for urgent changes: followers get them on their lock screen.
• Pin a notice to keep it at the top, or schedule it for a set time. Changes after publishing are shown on your page with their date.

Events

• Lectures, classes, iftars and gatherings: a date, a start and end time, a place and a description. Once, every week or every month.
• People can add an event to their calendar. Set a number of places and they can tap “I’m going” on your page; you see how many.
• Followers who get event alerts are told once, when you first publish it. A cancelled event stays listed, marked cancelled, so people who planned to come can see it.

Posts

News and photos for the community feed on your page and in the app: a thank-you, a class, a fundraiser update, with up to 10 photos. Only followers who turned post alerts on get a notification.

At the mosque now

On the Overview, tell people what they’ll find: the main hall, the sisters’ section, the wudu area or the parking, open, partly open or closed, with a short note. It shows on your page with the time you set it.

The prayer-hall screen

Any TV with a web browser can show your prayer times, the countdown to the iqamah and your own content: a smart TV, a Fire TV Stick, a Chromecast or a mini PC. Screens are free and unlimited on every plan.

Connect a TV

• 01In the workspace, open Prayer-hall screen, then Devices and Add a screen. A 6-character code appears; it’s valid for 10 minutes.
• 02On the TV, open www.minarafoundation.com/screen and enter the code.
• 03The screen connects and starts the loop. Press any key or tap it for full screen. From Devices you can rename a screen, connect it again or remove it.

The loop

• The prayer-times screen always stays in the loop and comes back between each item.
• Add content in the Content editor: an image (1920 × 1080), a notice, a QR code linking to a page of your choice, a verse of the Quran, a hadith (one you choose, or a random authentic one) or one of your events.
• Each item has its own display time and schedule: always, until a date, or on some days of the week. The prayer strip keeps the next prayer in view.
• Prayer comes first: from the adhan until 5 minutes after the iqamah, only the prayer-times screen is shown.
• Pick a look in Templates: Arcade, Minuit or Contraste, with very large numerals for big halls.
• If the internet drops, the screen keeps showing the last times it received.

The QR poster

A poster to hang in the mosque so worshippers can follow it on Minara. Open Mosque profile, then QR poster.

• Format: an A4 poster, an A3 poster for the entrance or large walls, an A5 table tent (one A4 sheet folded in half, readable from both sides), or a sheet of 6 round stickers, 8 cm across.
• Layout: Classic, with bands at the top and bottom, or Large header, with the message in the green.
• Languages: up to three, from French, English, Arabic, Turkish, Urdu, Indonesian, Spanish and German. The first one is the largest; the others appear below it.
• Your line: an optional sentence from the mosque, for example “Find the iqamah times every day”.
• Ink saving: a light background, ideal for the photocopier.
• Print-shop version: adds a 3 mm bleed (and crop and fold marks for the table tent) for a professional printer. Otherwise the office version prints as it is.

Use Test the QR code to check where it leads, then Download the PDF: it’s print-ready, colours included, with no print settings needed. The code opens your mosque page, so it only works once the mosque is verified and its page published.

Put it near the entrance, or show the QR code after Jumuʿah: scanning opens your page, ready to follow.

Your team

Each person has their own sign-in, and a role that sets what they can do.

• Owner: full control, including the team, billing and settings.
• Admin: everything except granting ownership.
• Editor: prayer times, notices, events, screens and the profile.
• Viewer: read-only access to everything.

Adding someone

In Team, choose Add team members and enter their email address, a role and, if you like, their position at the mosque (it doesn’t change what they can do). We email them a joining link that works for 7 days: they sign in or create an account with that address, then open the link. You can also copy the link and send it yourself.

A mosque always keeps at least one owner, and only an owner can give or change the owner role.

Questions from worshippers

How accurate are the prayer times?

Minara calculates them from your exact location with internationally recognised methods. If your mosque prays a few minutes apart, you can move each time earlier or later in Settings, under Advanced.

Which calculation method should I use?

Leave it on Automatic: Minara picks the method used where you are. If your community follows another one, ask your imam and choose it in Settings, where you can also pick Standard or Hanafi Asr.

Why are my mosque’s times different from the ones on Today?

Today shows the times calculated for where you are. A mosque on Minara sets its own times: its iqamah, when the congregation stands, and sometimes its own timetable. Its page shows those, marked “Set by the mosque”.

How do I follow a mosque?

Find it on Mosques by place, address or name, and tap Follow. Its iqamah times, notices and events then appear in your feeds. From the Following menu you choose your notifications: all, only some kinds, none, or hide it from your feeds. Notifications arrive on your phone, in the Minara app.

My mosque isn’t on Minara. What can I do?

Its page still shows the general times for the area. Tap “Notify me when it joins”: we email you once when it does, then delete your address. And if you know its team, tell them: Minara is free for every mosque.

A mosque’s times or details look wrong.

Each mosque sets its own times, so tell the mosque if you can. You can also use “Report a problem” on its page, and Minara’s team will look into it.

Do I need an account?

No. Without one, everything is saved on your device. Sign in to keep your mosques, routines and library in sync between the app and the website. You can delete your account at any time on the Account page or in the app.

Is there an app? Can the adhan ring on my phone?

The Minara app is free on iPhone, and Android is coming soon. A website can’t ring on your phone, so the adhan and routine reminders come with the app, where each prayer can have its own adhan, with a separate one for Fajr. Get the app.

Does Minara work offline?

Yes. Once your location is set, the app calculates prayer times on your phone and works without a connection.

Is my location data private?

Your position stays in your browser or on your phone, where your prayer times are calculated. To show place names, search for places or find mosques nearby, the coordinates or the search are sent to our map providers and to our server, which doesn’t store them. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Is Minara free?

Yes, for everyone, and without ads. We never sell data.

Questions from mosque teams

Does Minara cost our mosque anything?

Not during early access: the dashboard, your page, the app and the hall screen are free, and nothing is billed without your agreement. Prayer times, your public page and basic announcements never depend on a plan, and hall screens are unlimited on every plan. Adding team members and reading a timetable photo with AI are part of Minara Premium.

Why can’t people see our mosque yet?

Your mosque appears on Minara’s website and app once it’s verified and its page is published. Until then your dashboard and hall screens work as usual, and the Overview shows what’s left to do.

How long does verification take?

With an email code or the website check, the request is approved as soon as you send it. With documents, a person from our team reviews it within 72 hours and emails you the answer, or asks for more information.

Who sees our verification photos and documents?

Only Minara’s review team. They are never published.

Someone already manages our mosque on Minara.

If you’re part of its team, ask one of its administrators to add you from Team. If you run the mosque and can’t reach them, use “Request access” on the mosque’s page. A person reviews every request, and the current owners are told.

What do we need for the hall screen?

A TV with a web browser and an internet connection: a smart TV, a Fire TV Stick, a Chromecast or a mini PC. No extra hardware or app to install.

How do we change the iqamah for one day only?

Click that day’s iqamah time in the month table of Prayer times, or, for today, use Today’s iqamah on the Overview. For several days in a row, add an exception.

We already have a printed timetable.

Import it in Prayer times, under Timetable: from our template, from your own spreadsheet, or by pasting the cells. Reading a PDF or a photo of a printed timetable isn’t available yet.

Are followers told when we change a time?

They can be. In Prayer times, under Notifications, turn on automatic notifications for iqamah changes, or press Tell followers now. Notices can also send a phone alert, once your mosque is verified.

Can I manage more than one mosque?

Yes. Use “Add another mosque” in the dashboard menu. Each mosque has its own page, team and verification.
